KitFox Vineyards represents the culmination of four generations of passionate family farming. I am proud to say my father, my grandfather and his father before him all proudly made a living from working with the land. We honor their efforts by continuing the tradition of excellence they began long ago. Do wines that come from such a rich agricultural tradition taste better than the rest? What do you think?
From Nuts to Grapes : KitFox Vineyards were planted in 2000 after Hunter Vogel and his father, Fred, determined that the land on which they had been growing almonds and walnuts was indeed not only suitable for farming wine grapes, but was a terroir of great and undiscovered potential. This conclusion was delivered by viticultural experts at the University of California, Davis, as well as by independent consultants. The result is a 44-acre vineyard that has become the source for KitFox Vineyards superb wines.
New Ground For Fine Wines: The first KitFox wines confirmed what the Vogels believed about their vineyards. The wines were sumptuous and well balanced. As the vineyards mature, the wines will take on even more unique and identifiable characteristics. And in time, the continued high quality of KitFox Vineyards wines will establish this region as a renowned source of fine wines.
The Fox and the Grapes : The Vogel family's connection to their land is found in the very name of their winery. An endangered species, the San Joaquin Kit Fox has inhabited the lands in this region for hundreds of years. The name of this remarkable creature was adopted and placed on their labels to underscore the respect for the natural world upon which KitFox Vineyards is based. Only 7,000 of the species remain, it is a rare and special animal, much like a true family winery. |
